The Love of Siam (Thai: รักแห่งสยาม, RTGS: Rak Haeng Sayam, pronounced [rák hɛ̀ŋ sà.jǎːm]) is a 2007 Thai gay-themed romantic-drama film written and directed by Chookiat Sakveerakul. A multi-layered family drama, a groundbreaking element of the story is a gay romance between two teenage boys.

The film was released in Thailand on November 22, 2007. The fact that the gay storyline was not apparent from the film's promotional material initially caused controversy, but the film was received with critical acclaim and proved financially successful. It dominated Thailand's 2007 film awards season, winning the Best Picture category in all major events,

Ten-year olds Mew and Tong are neighbors. Mew is a soft-featured but stubborn kid, while Tong is a more masculine, energetic boy who lives with his parents and sister, a Christian Thai family. After accidentally spitting gum into Mew's hair, Tong wants to befriend Mew, but the quiet boy and his outgoing neighbor are not initially close. At school, effeminate Mew is teased by several other students and harassed until Tong steps in to defend him. Tong receives injuries and now they begin a friendship. Tong apologizes to Mew for the chewing gum incident. Mew is grateful for Tong stepping in and responds that now they are even. Mew plays on his late grandpa's piano and is joined by his grandma, who begins to play a song. Mew asks his grandma why she liked that song and his grandma responds by telling Mew that it was played for her by his grandpa. It was a way for him to express his love to her and she explains that one day, Mew will understand the meaning of the song.

Tong's family is going on vacation to Chiangmai and his older sister, Tang, begs her mother to be allowed to stay on with her friends a couple days more. Tong buys Mew a present and decides to give it to Mew piece by piece in a game of Treasure Hunt, a tradition in his family. One by one, Mew finds all of the pieces except for the last one which is hidden in a tree. The tree is cut down just as Mew is about to retrieve it leaving the present Tong bought for Mew incomplete. Tong is disappointed at their misfortune, but Mew remains grateful for Tong's efforts.

From Chiangmai, Tang calls her parents and tells them that she will be extending her stay in Chiangmai until the 24th of December. Tong looks at his calendar and realizes that Tang will not be able to attend the Christmas play he would participate in. The parents worry about their daughter. Tang cannot be reached. After the Christmas play, Tong receives a phone call from his parents telling him to stay with Mew and his grandma. After spending the night at Mew's house, Tong awakens to the sight of his parents along with Mew and his grandma. His parents go to Chiangmai to look for their daughter Tang, who may have gotten lost on a trek into the mountains. Tong becomes devastated that his sister is missing, and cries as Mew tries comfort his friend.

Months have passed and Tong's family decides to move to another part of Bangkok. On the day of the move, Tong finds Mew sitting on a ledge overlooking a pier. Tong says his final words and departs in a car. Tong looks back only to find Mew walking towards the car before coming to a stop and crying for losing his best friend.

Six years pass; Tong's father is a severe alcoholic, due to his guilt for losing his daughter. Tong has a pretty--but uptight--girlfriend, Donut. Tong and Mew are reunited during their senior year of high school at Siam Square. The musically talented Mew is the lead singer of a boy band called August. The meeting stirs up old feelings that Mew has harbored since boyhood, his love for Tong.

The manager of Mew's band, Aod, instructs the young musicians--their songwriter Mew in particular--that they must write a song about love in order to sell more records. He assigns them a new assistant manager, June. Coincidentally, June looks just like Tong's missing sister, Tang. When Tong eventually meets her, he and his mother, Sunee, devise to a plan to hire June to pretend she is Tang, in hopes that it will pull Tong's father out of his alcoholic depression. "Tang" borrows a story from the Thai film Ruk Jung, saying she has amnesia, which is why she has forgotten how to say grace at the dinner table. Mew is also the object of an unrequited crush of an obsessive neighbor girl, Ying, who is trying to use a voodoo doll and other tricks to make the boy like her. Unfortunately for her, Mew is more interested in his boyhood friend Tong, who has now become the inspiration for writing the new songs. The manager, as well as the entire band, are all impressed with Mew's composition.

As part of the deception with "Tang," a backyard party is held in honor of her return, and Mew's band August provides the entertainment. Singing the new love song for the first time in public, Mew's eyes lock intensely with Tong's. June notices this. After the party, everyone has left and the two boys are left alone in the yard. They share a prolonged kiss. Unseen, Tong's mother Sunee walks in on this and is stunned and upset. The next day, she goes to meet Mew and fiercely instructs him to stay away from her son, because her family has had enough troubles. When Tong finds out that his mother has interfered, he argues with her, but she has succeeded in creating a rift between the teens which persists for some time. Mew is heartbroken and loses his musical inspiration, so he quits the band.

Tong wants to obey his mother and be a good son, but he also resents that she has forbidden the love that he is becoming more certain about. At Christmas time, as he and his mother are decorating a Christmas tree, he finally finds a touching way to reconcile with her. Because she accepts him now, he in turn becomes more respectful of her, as we soon see. June has saved money and heads off in a bus to start another life, and it remains uncertain whether she was really Tang.

Tong then goes to Siam Square for a date with Donut. Mew has finally been able to rejoin the band, and they are playing nearby, so Tong abandons Donut and tells her that he cannot be with her. He then rushes to see Mew play and is guided there by Ying, who has accepted the fact that Mew loves Tong. After the performance, Tong gives Mew a gift, the missing nose from the wooden doll that Tong gave him when they were children. Although now more certain about his same-sex feelings, perhaps he is now considering his family, because he tells Mew he "can't be his boyfriend but that doesn't mean he doesn't love [him]." However, the friendship of the two continues.

The film ends with Mew putting the missing nose back to the wooden puppet, saying "thank you" and crying quietly.

FRIENDSHIP...

Singha (Mario Maurer) receives a call from Jazz, a high school friend. Jazz sets up a high school reunion from their class only. The entire bunch meets up, they had a conversation and turns into Singha's last year of high school memory. Where he met his first and only love, Mituna (Apinya Sakuljaroensuk).

At first day of their final year in high school, Singha was waiting for a bus and had seen a woman fell down. He helped the woman and rode a bus to go to school. They had two new classmates, Lam and Mituna. Mituna got late from class at that time but was excused because she was new from the school. She sat beside Jazz and in front of her is Kanda whom she became friends with. At first, Singha and her pals mocked her for being so silent. He got friends with Lam who had helped him survive under Kong who tried to kill him. Lam became close with Singha's group, hanging out with each other. Mituna hated Singha more when Singha made fun of her because they were dance partners. Until, Mituna fought back in the bus because they made fun of her because she had helped a mute woman.

From that time on, Singha had been stalking Mituna because he wanna know where she lived. He asked forgiveness to her but Mituna does not want to talk to him. Singha's group together with Jazz and Kanda asked Mituna's mom to have Mituna be with them in their project. They went upcountry and helped educate kids by giving them handouts and others. In a bonfire that night, Singha opened up his feelings by telling his most and second most favorite flower whom he referred as Mituna. He wanted to give the bright side of Mituna.

Mituna's pal and Singha's group became close to each other and helped fix Mituna's house. The group goes out together in resort and the skate club. Until, Singha and Mituna had fallen in love with each other. Lam got killed by Kong that brings sorrow to the group. Singha gave Mituna a paper to sign for their friendship book. She went home and had known that they had to move upcountry. In the final exam day, Mituna lied to Singha by telling him that she had to go upcountry for few days. After taking the last exam, she leave a note to Singha that they would talk at the result day.

Prior to the result day, Singha's father was transferred and they had to move. On the result day, Singha decided to wait for Mituna but changed his mind because of his friends. He got drunk and had fallen asleep. He woke up and look for Mituna in school and in her house. He ended up in the park waiting for her even if it is raining. He was caught by the cops but was recognized as son of a sergeant.

After the reminiscence, his friends told him at the reunion that if Mituna wanted to see him, she had showed up. He had to go upcountry for his job and found Mituna's mother. Mituna and Singha met each other again but Mituna was sicked and they talked whole night. Early morning, Mituna died listening to Singha. Her mother gave him Mituna's thing who she wanted to be given to Singha. Singha read her notes and found out the day she transferred in that school, she found Singha who is the most important person in her life. He found out that it was Mituna's mom whom he had helped that day. The marigold flower he gave to Mituna's mom was kept by her and became the reason why she loved marigold. He found out that Mituna had kept her promise to talk to him at the exam result day but ended up searching for him in his house and in the park. She was afraid they will never say goodbye to each other. She tried to go back to school but she failed.

"of all the flowers in this world, i like Marigold the most and the flowers i like the second most. I think their was none. But being naive and didn't know any better. I have to stepped on it. until now i feel sorry and mad with how stupid I've been. From now on i promise i will bring it up to how it used to be. I'll do everything i can so the flowers i love will be lively again and stay that way forever. No matter how it takes, i promise you guys, my friends here. I won't give up and definitely won't break this promise."

I really love this story, so much it was one of the best story I've seen from Mario Maurer

i still remember the capture of the story on how their love fail and turns sad ending.

i thought the story is an awesome fairytale, but guess i was wrong. But anyway i love this

LOVE OF SIAM was not totally a gay movie. It's just something that both of them were just thirst a real meant of love which they won't experience from their parents.
Both of them, found intimate feelings each other and it's also because they don't know what love really is as their young age. Insofar of their childhood friendship, something that was established which they don't what it was because they're just caring each other from time to time. Friendship is someone you accompany with whether in bad times or good times. Thus, because of some struggles that are raises in their concerns. They were just stood each other help to find a way. They are happy together that's why. They love is other and care each other more than friends.
But if you don't have any commitment to someone. It doesn't mean you you don't love him. Isn't it?.

Genre: Horror/Comedy
Language: Thai
Subtitle: English

Due to hit cinemas this week is director Yuthlert Sippapaks long- awaited Buppha Rahtree 3.1 (Rahtree Reborn), the third installment of his cult comedy-horror Buppha Rahtree franchise.

The latest film takes viewers back to the haunted apartment room 609 and the vengeful ghost Buppah who refuses to be dislodged.

Judging by the films trailer and posters, Rahtree Reborn looks to be the most gruesome film in the series so far, with more gore and pools of blood than ever.

The sexy female ghost is once again played by 26-year-old Chermarn Boonyasak (Ploy). Her hapless victim this time is 20-year-old heart-throb Mario Maurer. The two stars previously acted together in the 2007 film, The Love of Siam.

Student Weekly recently met up with Ploy and Mario at a press conference to hear about the horror and the laughs in Rahtree Reborn.

STUDENT WEEKLY: How did it feel acting together again?

Mario: I played Ploys brother in The Love of Siam, but in Rahtree Reborn I got to fall in love with her. [Laughs.] Its always an honour to work with Ploy.

Ploy: It was nice to act with Mario again. Hes a cool guy. Mario is still new to acting, but he did a great job on this film.

STUDENT WEEKLY: Mario, what is your character in the film like?

Mario: I play Rung, a young cartoonist who moves into the haunted apartment. He has a supernatural ability to see ghosts, but when he meets Buppha, he develops a crush on her. He doesnt realise that shes the one he should be avoiding!

STUDENT WEEKLY: Were you a fan of the other Buppah Rahtree films?

Mario: Absolutely. I saw the first two movies at the cinema, and I have the DVD box set at home. The Buppah Rahtree films have their own unique style. I didnt expect to be chosen to act in the third film, so it was a blast for me.

STUDENT WEEKLY: Is acting in a horror movie more difficult than working on teen dramas?

Mario: Its a lot different. The script was more complicated, and I had to take some acting classes. The director was very helpful throughout the shoot.

STUDENT WEEKLY: Ploy, did you intend to make Buppha more beautiful than in the previous films?

Ploy: Yes. [Laughs.] I wanted to change the character a bit. She isnt just an innocent young girl anymore she has long hair and wears eyeliner, which makes her look more mysterious. There are also parts of the movie when Buppha is very scary.

STUDENT WEEKLY: Does Buppha have a new weapon in every film?

Ploy: Yes. She uses a handsaw on the first movie, and a big needle in the second one. This time she uses astraight razor to cut Marios throat. [Laughs].

STUDENT WEEKLY: What makes Rahtree Reborn different from other horror films?

Ploy: It has more variety. Youll sit on the edge of your seat with fear, but you might also fall off your seat laughing. The films full of classic jokes.

Mario: It also has some romance, too. Fans of the first two films definitely shouldnt miss this one.

Student Weekly also asked director Yuthlert Sippapak a few questions about the film.

STUDENT WEEKLY: The Thai title of the movie is Buppah Rahtree 3.1. What does 3.1 mean?

Yuthlertu The movie is divided into two parts. Buppah Rahtree 3.2 should be coming out in June.

STUDENT WEEKLY: What made you pick Mario for this film?

Yuthlert: His look and quiet personality perfectly suited the character that I created.

STUDENT WEEKLY: Do you see Buppah Rahtree as mainly a ghost story or a love story?

Yuthlert: Its more of a love story, showing that love never dies. The audience also seems to enjoy the horror and the comedy.

We had mixed feedback when the first Buppha Rahtree movie came out. It was pretty scary, so we added more comedy into the second film. For the third one, we just did whatever we wanted!

• Did you know •
Buppha Rahtree gained a cult following overseas when it was screened at the 2004 Toronto International Film Festival.
